Earth, the little green and blue planet in the Solar System . . .
As you get closer to earth look out for the blue bits - they are wet and
unless you have gills or a floating device you may drown . . .
Aim for the green bit ringed in red
It will also be best to avoid the white bits 'cause they are cold . . .
The blue bits are what we earthlings call seas
and oceans. They are the wet bits. (see drowning
above) The green and browny coloured bits are what we call land and we
call these continents.
These are drier than the blue bits and
sometimes almost completely dry. Best not to land in these places unless
you've got plenty of water on board. In this view you can see two continents,
Africa at the bottom and Europe at the top. You can also see a liitle bit
of Asia - on the right and Greenland - the white bit at top right.
We are getting nearer to Europe now. This continent is split up into what
we call countries. This is because we have something called history which
is gone now! The country that Silverton is part of is the United Kingdom
and it is surrounded by seas and an ocean. It's going to take some accurate
driving if you are going to miss the wet bits.
The ocean is called the Atlantic and it is the second biggest wet bit on
earth. It is to the left of the picture. We can see a few countries; Spain
and Portugal, France, a bit of Italy, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands,
Belgium, Denmark and Norway and some little ones.
Our nearest countries (from Silverton) are France (at the bottom) and Eire
(the island) on the left.
The United Kingdom is split up into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland. England's the bit you want. This is further divided into counties.
Silverton is in Devon. Aim for the red dot.
